Freerk Zeijl

Freerk Zeijl plays an ALTUS 1607

Having previously played on a Louis Lot head joint, I was looking for these typical colours, but with a more powerful sound combined with a modern scale flute. With the 1607 I found both, colourful sound and powerful projection. The flute is crafted very well with a good sense for the traditional design, and it resonates from top to bottom!

Freerk Zeijl, born in Amsterdam in 1950 moved to Germany at the age of six and started playing the flute when he was ten. From early age on he won several music competitions (Jugend musiziert, Prix du Mécénat at Concours International de Flute Paris und Internationaler Musikwettbewerb in Genf). After his studies with Aurèle Nicolet and masterclasses with Jean Pierre Rampal he was appointed pricipal flute at the Gürzenich Orchester Cologne at the age of 23. He also worked with the Bayreuther Festspiel Orchester and appeared as soloist and chamber musician at festivals as well as giving master classes around the world (Cologne, Seoul,  Rio de Janeiro a.o.). He is also a member of the chamber music ensemble "Charis". He has recorded all Prokofiev Symphonies and the Symphonies 2,3,4,6,7,9,10,13 by Schostakowitsch under Dimitri Kitaenko. An edition of Tschaikowsky Symphonies will follow soon. Also several recordings of operas by Weber and Zemlinsky under J. Conlon were published by EMI.
